The type localities, depositary museums, taxonomical comments and geographical occurrences of the Neotropical Xeromelissinae are given. Flowers visited and nesting habits of some species are presented. The following new combinations are proposed: Chilicola cupheae (Schrottky,1905) and Chilicola (Anoediscelis) dalmeidai (Moure, 1946). Chilicola friesella is the new name given to Chilicola friesei Herbst, 1920, the homonym resulted by thepublication of Oediscelis friesei Ducke, 1907as Chilicola (Üediscelis) friesei by Michener, 1995. |

The present catalogue lists the type specimes of 112 nominal " poneromorph" ant species housed in the Formicidae collection of the Hymenoptera laboratory, Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP). The catalogue includes types of Amblyoponinae, Ectatomminae, Heteroponerinae, Ponerinae, and Proceratiinae, that is, all poneromorph (sensu Bolton, 2003) but for the monotypic Paraponerinae, of which the collection bears no type specimens. We present here information on type categories (holotype, paratype, syntype, lectotype, and paralectotype), label data, nomenclatural changes since the original description and type specimens conservation status. At last we present indexes for the taxa names presented. |

Sol i 2 is a potent allergen in Solenopsis invicta venom, and most humans exhibit reactivity to it. The Sol gem 2 allergen found in the venom of the Thai tropical fire ant Solenopsis geminata was analysed in the present study. The protein was present in higher amounts than other proteins, as determined by SDS-PAGE, and presumably has allergenic properties similar to those of Sol i 2. Sol gem 2 molecular weight is 28 and 15 kDa, respectively, under non-reducing and reducing conditions, indicating that its native form is a dimer. LC-MS/MS analysis confirmed its similarity to Sol i 2. The mono/dimeric form of Sol gem 2 was determined to be relevant by proteomic approach and immunoblotting. An anti-Sol gem 2 antibody was produced in mice, with a titer greater... |

Females of Galodoxa torquata Nagy, 1974, from the Oriental region, are promptly recognized by the deeply incised and bifurcate posterior margin of the fourth metasomal sternite. Because of this unusual character Nagy (1974) established a subfamily to accommodate it, but a superficial examination indicates that this species might be better placed in the tribe Sclerodermini. In order to test the hypothesis, it is redescribed, illustrated, and cladistically compared with data in literature of representative species of almost all genera of Sclerodermini and three outgroup species. A total of 72 characters extracted from literature are evaluated. The analyses were executed with equally weighted parsimony and implied weighting. Both unweighted and implied... |

ABSTRACT A detailed protocol for chemical clearing of bee specimens is presented. Dry specimens as well as those preserved in liquid media can be cleared using this protocol. The procedure consists of a combined use of alkaline solution (KOH or NaOH) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), followed by the boiling of the cleared specimens in 60–70% EtOH. Clearing is particularly useful for internal skeletal morphological research. This procedure allows for efficient study of internal projections of the exoskeleton (e.g., apodemes, furcae, phragmata, tentoria, internal ridges and sulci), but this process makes external features of the integument, as some sutures and sulci, readily available for observation as well. Upon completion of the chemical clearing process the... |

No... |

A comparative study of some characters as: the lenght of the mesepisternal carina (almost complete or short), the shape of the scutellum (flattened or bilobed), and only in the male: the shape of the distal terga and of the sterna (normal or with some sterna hidden) and the lenght of the basal articles of the flagellum (short or longer than their diameter) resulted in distinguishing Anthidulum from Dicranthidium as good genera separated from Hypanthidioides Moure. Seven new species are described: Anthidulum christinae, sp.n. from Muzo, Colômbia; Anthidulum mourei, sp.n. from Ponta Grossa, PR, Brasil; Anthidulum cavichiolii, sp.n. from Cáceres, MT, Brasil: Anthidulum zanolae, sp.n. from Araxá, MG, Brasil; Dicranthidium luciae, sp.n. from Maracás, BA,... |

Dasypoda intermedia spec. nov. from Iran is described. Its description fills a gap of our knowledge of the East Mediterranean fauna of the genus Dasypoda. The West Mediterranean Dasypoda species are well known but the eastern species lack convincing records. Moreover, D. intermedia spec. nov. is a very interesting species from a phylogenetic point of view. It shares some characters common to subgenera Dasypoda s. str. and Megadasypoda Michez, 2004, which provide further evidence for the close relationship of both subgenera. |
